Dear Fellow Retired Sergeant,
This time of the year, I would like to wish our members and their families a very Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanza and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. As we get older time seems to move much faster. It was nice seeing everyone at the SBA Holiday Luncheon on December 19th, 2025 at Russo on the Bay. I can’t thank Vinny Vallelong and the entire SBA board enough for their support of the RSA.
If you have not paid your 2026 dues, please do so at your earliest convenience, this will help us reduce the rising cost of postage. As you all know we retirees have been dealing with a lot of issues regarding our Health/Hospital coverage and Concealed Carry Weapon policies/laws. We will continue to work closely with the SBA and political leaders regarding these and other issues and will continue to keep our members informed. However, starting January 2026, you must be an active (paid) member of the RSA to receive our informative email blasts and Chevron Newsletter. You can pay your dues by mail or via Pay Pal, please visit our website at WWW.RSANYPD.ORG. The Scholarship 50/50 raffle is available and once again at a record high. Last year we were able to award three scholarships in the amounts of $ 6,625.00 and the 1st Prize raffle winner took home a handsome $ 14,910.00. If you would like additional raffles tickets, please contact us at (718) 605-0272 or by email at: RSA@RSANYPD.ORG. The drawing will be held at our Florida General Meeting. The 2026 meeting will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel Boca Raton on January 28, 2026 at 12:00pm noon. We will have many guest speakers, including the SBA Frontline team and a representative form United HealthCare, who will discuss the new medical plan. The RSA has secured a very reasonable room rate, which includes a suite and breakfast, so please see Pg.11 for additional information. Once again the event is selling out so BOOK NOW!!
Our Golf Outing was completely sold out. The NYPD Ceremonial Unit conducted the opening ceremonies with the National Anthem and benediction from Monsignor Cassada. I would like to thank our sponsors and Jeanette Dice, Director of Health & Wellness for her dedication to making the day events run smoothly. I would like to acknowledge Jonathan Schwartz, Recording Secretary, for his devotion in the restoration of the Police Officer Edward Byrnes RMP. If you would like to make a donation, please visit PO Edward Byrnes “Fund the First “website. This Board works tirelessly to aid and assist our members and all police officers.
I would like to take this time to explain to our members the mission of the RSA. We were established in 1995 by Ret. Sergeant Harold Kamien so he could be the voice to right wrongs and inspire unions and others to “do the right thing”. We are a fraternal organization, made up of retired NYPD Sergeants. Our mission is “Keeping Retirees Informed.” This Board is here to protect and improve the conditions which are related to retired Sergeants. We have worked very hard to develop a partnership with the SBA, all active units in the NYPD, and other fraternal organizations. We are very fortunate and thankful for having a voice regarding changes and improvements to the Health & Welfare programs for retirees. The RSA is very active politically, as we endorse many candidates and consistently lobby the Albany legislators, on behalf of bills which may benefit our membership.
To our incredible membership—thank you. Your trust, engagement, and support has made this journey meaningful and easy. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as your president and watch this organization’s growth and success.
Fraternally,
