Dear Fellow Retired Sergeant,
I hope you all enjoyed your summer. The June General Membership Meeting was a great success. As always, we were joined by the SBA board, Health & Wellness Section, NYPD Pistol License Division and the NYPD Chief Surgeon Eli Klienman, who spoke to us about the Honorary Surgeons Program. This program was able to assist two of our members. Tom & Diane Colvin’s son Matthew was injured in Italy. The RSA was able to put them in contact with the program, and they were able to obtain important information to aid in his recovery. I would also like to thank all the RSA members who donated to the GOFUNDME. I have said this before, I am proud to be a member of this great organization. The RSA Board has been busy all summer long, the RSA travel event on June 17th aboard the Liberty of the Seas was enjoyed by all who attended. On June 27th, we attended the SBA Picnic. On July 17th, we joined the SBA on the steps of City Hall. On July 30th, we joined FOP Lodge 69, the SBA, and the Nassau County PD in a day of fun at BOCES School in Bellmore for Special Needs Children.
The Medicare Retirees had a major setback from the NYS Court of Appeals, this means the city can implement a Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP). Ultimately, the Mayor makes the decision. The Adams Administration has decided not to force this change but there may be a new Mayor in town. Our voices will need to be heard as we get closer to the mayoral election. Voting in your local elections is powerful because it gives you direct influence over decisions that shape your everyday life. So, I urge all of our members who reside in the City to get out and cast your vote. Our upcoming General Membership Meeting will be held on September 24th, 2025 in Bethpage. We will be having Vendor Night, and all our supporters will be present to offer our members special discounts. On October 7th, 2025, we will be having our 3rd Annual Golf Outing at Harbor Links in Port Washington. The event is “SOLD OUT” but please join us for lunch. In the September Chevron Newsletter, you will find the information for our January 28, 2026 Florida Membership meeting. Please book as early as possible, the event is “SOLD OUT” every year.
As we embark on our 2026 Membership campaign, our dues have remained unchanged at $25.00. To assist us in covering the rising costs, including postage, we kindly request that you make your dues payment as early as possible. Additionally, our Newsletter includes our Scholarship Raffles. Last year, due to the generosity of the members, we were able to award $19880.00, in prize money and $22875.00, in scholarships. You have a chance to win a large sum of money and help a member’s child or grandchild further their education. Thank you to all our members for your incredible support and active involvement. Your dedication, time, and contributions make a real difference, and we’re truly grateful to have such a committed organization. Together, we have accomplished so much, and we are a large voice to be heard.
Fraternally,
Robert Cotumaccio
President
